Adobe's Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are popular design tools for professionals. However, Adobe's products are managed by 'Creative Cloud' and require monthly subscriptions to use, and are not sold as one-time licenses. On the other hand, Affinity is sold as a one-time license for Windows, Mac, and iPad.

In addition, the 'Affinity V2 Universal License', which includes Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer and Affinity Publishe, can be used on Windows, Mac and iPad with one license. This Affinity V2 Universal License is also sold as a one-time purchase, and there is no need to sign up for a monthly paid subscription.

When Serif was acquired by online design platform Canva in March 2024, the company stated that it had no intention of changing Affinity's perpetual license business model.

It was also announced that the Affinity V2 Universal License will have a 'six-month free trial period' on July 8, 2024. Serif said, 'We know switching creative software can be a daunting decision, so we want to give you plenty of time to test Affinity before making the switch.'

According to Serif, you don't need to enter any payment details to try the Affinity V2 Universal License for free, and there's no obligation to purchase the app after the free trial period has ended. Serif also revealed that they have reset all trial history, so anyone who has tried it before can try it again for free.

'We know making a change is a big step, especially for busy professionals, so we say 'try everything without paying anything'. Anyone who takes the trial is under no obligation to buy,' said Serif CEO Ashley Hewson.

'Adobe has become so dominant in the design tools market that I don't think that works for anyone,' Canva CEO Melanie Perkins said in

an interview . 'I think it's in everyone's interest to have alternatives in the market for professional designers.'

At the time of writing, Serif is running a campaign to offer 50% off all Affinity licenses. The desktop version license is 5,200 yen (tax included), the iPad version license is 1,300 yen (tax included), and the Affinity V2 Universal License is 12,200 yen (tax included).
