Threads will add the ability to directly view replies sent from ActivityPub-compatible SNS such as Mastodon

Threads, a short message posting SNS operated by Meta,

supports the decentralized SNS protocol ActivityPub , and has a function that allows posts to be viewed from ActivityPub-compatible SNS such as Mastodon. Now, users can view and like replies from the post destination from Threads.

By enabling 'Share on Fediverse' on Threads, you can view your posts on Threads from ActivityPub-compatible SNS. For example, here's how Mark Zuckerberg's post on Threads looks when viewed from the Mastodon instance ' mastodon.social .'

Since there are many SNS that support ActivityPub, it was very difficult to check the responses to a post on all the posting destinations. Now, Threads has added a new function to display a list of replies received on the posting destinations. When replies are received on the posting destinations, the number of replies and the number of servers from which the replies were received are displayed at the bottom of each post.

The reply display screen looks like this. It shows the name and server of the user who replied, the time the reply was sent, and the content of the reply. You can also like each reply from this screen.

However, at the time of writing, it appears that this feature cannot be used via API.

So far, 'Fediverse Share' has been beta tested in Japan, the US, and Canada , but it has been announced that the testing will be expanded to more than 100 countries.
