You can now follow users directly on Mastodon and other ActivityPub-compatible social networks in Threads and receive notifications about their new posts.

Threads is compatible with the decentralized SNS protocol '

ActivityPub ', so you can distribute posts to ActivityPub-compatible SNS such as Mastodon, and check replies from compatible SNS on the Threads app . Threads now has a new feature that lets you follow users on ActivityPub-compatible SNS to receive notifications of new posts.

Posts from ActivityPub-compatible SNSs can be viewed across service boundaries, and the relationship between compatible SNSs is called the 'Fediverse.' Threads is also focusing on supporting the Fediverse, and already has a feature that displays replies from the Fediverse and checks the number of 'likes.' A new feature has been added that allows you to view a list of posts from Fediverse users and follow them.

To follow a Fediverse user on Threads, follow these steps: First, tap the area at the top of the post's replies that shows the number of replies from Fediverse.

When the replies appear, tap the user you want to follow.

Once the user page appears, you can follow them by tapping 'Follow.'

You can also receive notifications of new posts from Fediverse users.

'Mastodon users can now reach 200 million people without using Threads. True decentralization is happening on the Fediverse!' Mastodon developer Eugen Rochko said in a statement.
