Apple ID is an account used to use Apple services such as App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. By creating and signing in to your Apple ID, you can manage various Apple-related information such as purchasing music, downloading apps, registering your AppleOnline product, and viewing AppleCare support information.
Apple has announced that with the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11, this Apple ID will be changed to an 'Apple Account.'
Apple explains the reason for the change as being to 'provide a consistent sign-in experience across Apple services and devices.'
This does not mean that users need to change anything as the information itself relies on users' existing credentials, just the name.
iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, which feature new features such as the name change for Apple ID and Apple's personal AI 'Apple Intelligence,' are scheduled to be released in the fall of 2024. At the time of writing, a developer beta version was available through the Apple Developer Program, and it seems that evidence of the name change can be seen in this version.
