Godzilla 1.0, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, is the first Japanese film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

At the 96th Academy Awards, director Takashi Yamazaki's film 'Godzilla -1.0 (Minus One)' won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. This is good news following the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film won by director Hayao Miyazaki's film 'How Do You Live?' , and it is the first time a Japanese film has won the award for Best Visual Effects, and the first time in Asia.
