Godzilla-1.0, directed by Takashi Yamazaki, wins the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, the first time for a Japanese film

The origins of this activity lie in 'Juvenile,' released in 2000, and 'The Returner,' released in 2002. Now, more than 20 years after their theatrical release, each film will be digitally remastered in 4K from the original 35mm negatives.

Comments from Director Yamazaki and Suzuki Anne, star of both films, are as follows:

Takashi Yamazaki:
I recently watched Juvenile and Returner for the first time in a while.
The 4K remaster has brought that moment back to life as if it had been filmed just recently.
Both stories center around time travel, and the films themselves were like a time machine, taking me back to more than 20 years ago.
Everyone was young and the images were so vivid that I felt as if I was being drawn right into the movie, and a sweet nostalgia rose up in my heart so uncontrollably that I almost cried a little.
I've been making films for a long time, but I feel that the youthfulness and sadness contained in my first two films is clearly no longer available to me.
Although the film has many shortcomings, I would be happy if people would come to the theater to see it for the first time in a long time.

Suzuki Anne:
The revived 'Juvenile' and 'Returner'. I was completely captivated.
It's fun, emotional, and challenging!
Oh? How old was Director Yamazaki when he made 'Juvenile'? I did the math and found out he's almost the same age as me now. I respect him again. Director Yamazaki has made his dreams come true one after another with his talent and hard work.
I'm looking forward to seeing more of your future works!
To be honest, I didn't really understand the amazingness of 4K digital remastering until now (sorry), but now that I'm involved in the remastering, I'm moved by the depth of how it connects the past, present, and even the future.

'Juvenile' will be released for a limited time from Friday, November 22, 2024, and 'Returner' will be released for a limited time from Friday, November 29, 2024.
