'Godzilla-like tree' stands silently in the snow in Matsumoto City

It's common for trees to have shapes that look like something, and there are many 'Godzilla-like trees' in various places. One of them is in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, the hometown of

Takashi Yamazaki , the director of the movie ' Godzilla 1.0, ' so I went to see it.

The location is here. It is along National Route 158, which connects Matsumoto city and Kamikochi.

This time we will be using public transportation, so we will be using the Alpico Kotsu Kamikochi Line, which runs along National Route 158.

This is the final appearance of the 3000 series train, which will be taken out of regular service in March 2025.

The Godzilla-looking tree is located between Shimojima Station and Hata Station, so I decided to walk there from Shimojima Station. It's about a 10-minute walk from each station.

The temperature was 0 degrees and we headed west in the snow. From Shimojima Station, there were sidewalks on both sides of the road, but from around the 7-Eleven, the sidewalks were only on the north side. There was a lot of traffic, so be careful when crossing.

The row of buildings on the left as we headed began to disappear, and trees came into view in the distance.

This is the 'Godzilla-looking tree.' It looks like Godzilla's head, facing right and with its mouth open.

It turns out that Godzilla appears to be just a result of the branches of a naturally standing red pine tree, and when I walked a little further I saw a small branch extending from the top of Godzilla's head.

This is what it looks like from the back side. You can see that it is a red pine standing next to the Oyamazumi Shrine. From this side, it doesn't look very Godzilla-like.

As I was watching from the snow, a train bound for Matsumoto came in behind the ``Godzilla-looking tree.''

It was so cold that we quickly left the area and headed to Hata Station, one stop away.

By the way, if you check the past state of the tree on Google Street View, it appears that until 2020, there was another tree in front of the 'Godzilla-looking tree' (to the east), making it difficult to see clearly.

In 2022, the tree will be gone and you will be able to see the 'Godzilla-looking tree.' The density of the leaves may be a little thinner.

At this rate, it looks like the branches will eventually grow and evolve into something different from Godzilla.
