On November 8, 2023, Nintendo announced that it had begun planning and developing a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda. The film will be produced jointly by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad , founder of Marvel Studios and producer of numerous blockbuster films.

The Legend of Zelda is produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions, a film studio headed by Arad, and directed by Wes Ball of the Maze Runner series. Nintendo will invest over 50% of the film's production costs, and Sony Pictures Entertainment will be in charge of worldwide distribution and co-financing.

Arad previously served as chief creative officer of Marvel Entertainment, chairman and CEO of Marvel Studios, and founded his own film production company, Arad Productions, in 2006.
