New features added to YouTube Shorts are available from 'Remix'. To use Remix, play the official music video on the mobile YouTube app and tap the Remix button.

This will reveal tools that short video creators can use to remix music videos, including Sound, Collaboration, Green Screen, and Crop.

With 'Sound', you can extract just the music from a music video and use it in a short video. Please note that the 'Sound' feature has been

available for some time.

By using 'Collaboration', you can display up to 60 seconds of a music video together with a video you shot yourself. First, trim the part you like from the music video and tap 'Next'.

Then, the trimmed music video and the video shot with the camera will be displayed on one screen.

You can also change the layout of the displayed screen by tapping the layout button on the right.

``Select Layout'' will be displayed, so you can select the position where the music video will be displayed from ``Left'', ``Right'', ``Top'', or ``Bottom'' and apply your preferred layout. YouTube gives an example of this feature: ``You can create a short video that plays the music video dance and your own dance together.''

You can also use the 'green screen' feature to use your music video as the background for your short video. First, similar to 'Collaboration', trim a specific part of the music video and tap 'Done'.

Then, the person or object captured by the camera will be automatically cropped and composited into the music video.

You can also split and display the same video by tapping 'Layout' on the trimming screen.

Below is an example of a possible split layout with 'green screen'.

'Cut' allows you to cut out up to 5 seconds of footage from a music video and use it as a short video.

Salah Ali, YouTube's senior director of product management, said: 'On YouTube, you can play a music video over and over again, check out short videos of the same song made by other fans, or cut specific moments from your favorite artists. YouTube is the only platform where you can do this in one platform,' he said, demonstrating its advantage over competing platforms such as TikTok.

In addition, TikTok, a competing platform of YouTube, has terminated its contract with Universal Music Group (UMG) as of January 31, 2024. Regarding the termination of the contract, UMG takes issue with ``the low amount of compensation that TikTok pays to UMG'', ``AI initiatives'', and ``safety initiatives''. Due to the termination of the contract, it is no longer possible to use songs by artists affiliated with UMG on TikTok.
