Founded in 2005, DatPiff is a mixtape posting and sharing site specializing in music genres such as hip-hop and rap. DatPiff's service, called The Authority In Mixtapes, allows musicians to publish and post their own music on the platform, while listeners can stream and download projects on the site.

However, in March 2023, a problem occurred where The Authority In Mixtapes' server crashed. Songs and project data uploaded to the server were at risk of being lost. In April 2023, one month after the server crash, DatPiff released a statement saying, 'Please use the next generation of DatPiff!' We're evolving beyond an app. We're partnering with Archive.org to continue making our library available to you. We'll share more details soon.'

Then, on January 8, 2024, DatPiff uploaded all projects on the server and 50TB of cache data to the Internet Archive. The number of songs and projects uploaded by DatPiff is 366,420 at the time of article creation, and these songs can be streamed and played on the Internet Archive, and can also be downloaded.

Jason Scott of the Internet Archive revealed that DatPiff did not notify the Internet Archive in advance that it would be uploading data, but said, ``DatPiff does not simply delete music, but rather preserves the library for a long time. 'We are pleased that users are using the Internet Archive. The 50TB of data that was uploaded this time is equivalent to half a day's worth of data that is normally uploaded to the Internet Archive.' Scott added, ``The reason why DatPiff chose to upload data to the Internet Archive is because we believe that the mixtape culture, while important, is something that is easily lost.'' 'In hip-hop, it's very possible to lose everything to apathy and natural entropy.'
