It has been revealed that Sony has applied for a patent for ``a controller that rolls two giant spheres with your feet.'' This controller has been developed to enhance the VR experience in small rooms.

Sony applied for a patent in the United States on June 10, 2022 titled ``DUAL SPHERE FOOT OPERATED POSITION-BASED CONTROLLER (position-based controller operated with two spheres with feet)''. The patent application documents include a diagram of a controller with two spheres being operated with the feet as shown below.

An inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a processing unit (processor) are placed around the sphere, and you can operate the game by rolling the sphere like

It seems that it is also supposed to operate one ball with two legs.

The patent application also includes a diagram of a type of controller that allows you to place your feet on a curved surface.
Sony has revealed in its patent application that the controller is intended for VR and AR. Existing controllers for VR and AR include ``types that can be used while moving around the room'' and ``types that can be used while sitting on a chair using a gamepad, keyboard, and mouse.'' There are problems such as 'The experience is limited because it can only be operated with hands and fingers.' In addition, there is a problem with steering wheel and pedal-type controllers used in racing games, etc., that they are difficult to use for other purposes. Sony has invented a ``foot-operated spherical controller'' with the aim of solving these problems.
