When I started Photoshop, a mysterious pop-up message saying 'This facial expression file is defective or corrupted' kept appearing, so I contacted Adobe official.

Adobe Photoshop , which allows you to edit and process images at a high level, will be released in September 2023 as version 25.0 of the desktop version, Photoshop 2024 . It was a major update, including AI-based generation tools and various functional enhancements, but since the switch to Photoshop 2024, a mysterious pop-up has started appearing when Photoshop is started on editorial staff's PCs. Even after searching for help, the problem remained a mystery, so I contacted Adobe officially to find out how to deal with it.

From around September to October 2023, when trying to start Photoshop, a pop-up message saying ``This facial expression file is defective or corrupt'' like the image below was displayed. If you click 'OK', it will start up without any problems and you can use it without any discomfort, but it is troublesome that the startup will stop due to a pop-up.

When I searched Google for the contents of the pop-up message, Adobe's official help and personal blogs were displayed at the top, but there were many questions such as ``How to restore corrupted files'' and ``What to do if the file gets corrupted when opening it.'' ” and the message itself was not a hit.

So, next time I will try searching for 'facial expression file' directly in

the Adobe Help Center to find out the cause.

However, here again, although the words 'facial expression' and 'file' were hits, the help page for 'facial expression files' was not.

I will contact Adobe support directly to determine the issue and how to resolve it. Click the balloon icon at the bottom right of the help page.

Adobe Virtual Assistant will open, so enter the details of the problem you are experiencing.

Click 'Yes'

Select Chat with an Adobe representative to ask your question directly to an Adobe representative.

According to the person in charge, this popup occurs when an error occurs in the Adobe settings file, and is caused by the error not being generated or saved correctly when editing or writing. It seems that the problem can be fixed by deleting the files that were half-saved. So, open Explorer and access the folder with your user name from 'Users'. If you check 'File name extensions' and 'Hidden files' from the 'View' tab, the 'AppData' folder will appear, so open the folder. Please note that we are using Windows 10 Explorer.

Click on the 'Roaming' folder.

Open the 'Adobe' folder.

This time the problem occurred with Photoshop 2024, so select the 'Adobe Photoshop 2024' folder.

Open Adobe Photoshop 2024 Settings.

If you can move to the folder location as shown below, you will find a file called 'FaceExpressionPresets.psp' in the folder. This is what the 'expression file' in the pop-up message looks like. According to an Adobe representative, ``Please rest assured that deleting this will not erase any data or settings,'' so I deleted FaceExpressionPresets.psp. After that, even when I started Photoshop 2024, the pop-up did not appear and the startup process stopped, and I was able to start working smoothly.
