The 'Indy 500' is a historic race that has been held since 1911 and will make 200 laps of 2.5 miles (about 4 km) of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. At one point it was one race of the F1 World Championship.

The 'Indy Car Series', a popular formula car race in North America, has been held since 1996 with the 'Indy 500' incorporated. Due to this historical background, the Indy 500 has become the most noticeable race in the series.

Sato has participated in the IndyCar Series since 2010 and has won five wins including the 2017 Indy 500.

In the 2020 race, Sato showed a run into the leading group and, on 158th lap, overtakes Scott Dixon to take the lead.

After that, although he gave up the lead once, he regained the lead and won.

Below is the joyful voice of winning Sato.

The comments from Takuma Sato announced by Honda are as follows.

I was so grateful to many people that I could win the 104th Indy 500 and I couldn't put it into words. We also appreciate that this year's Indy 500 was held with the support of many people in this coronal disaster.
I was one lap behind Dixon in the final fuel strategy, and although the fuel consumption to the goal was a bit tough, I continued to save fuel as much as possible, and finally the last battle became intense. As a result, I was able to secure enough fuel to fight at full power.
HPD (Honda Performance Development) and Honda have created a fuel-efficient engine that also has power. The team also made the best machine and did a great job at the pit stop.
I think all Japanese fans were watching TV from midnight. Thank you for your encouragement. I think it's because of your support that I was able to list my second win at the Indy 500 in this way. I will do my best to become a champion until the end of the series!

The Indy 500 has won multiple wins for the first time in five years since Juan Pablo Montoya who won in 2000 and 2015. In 2012, Dario Franchitti, who won 2007 and 2010, has won his third win.
