The 8 TB NF 1 SSD announced by Samsung this time adopts the form factor standard "NF 1" of 30.5 mm × 110 mm, and although it is larger in size than the SSD of the M.2 standard, it has twice the capacity It will be possible. As a result, Samsung explains that NF1 SSD is suitable for use in applications such as data intensive analysis and virtual applications that require higher performance than M.2 SSD.
The NF1 SSD incorporates a unique controller equipped with an interface of PCI Express (PCIe) 4.0 and 12 GB of LPDDR 4 memory. As a result, the sequential read speed is 3100 MB / sec and the same write speed is 2000 MB / sec. Also, with random access, the read speed will be 500,000 IOPS and the write speed will be 50,000 IOPS. As for durability, Samsung has been evaluated at 1.3 DWPD , and the warranty period is set to 3 years.
Samsung's specifications at the time of writing are as follows.
NAND flash: 256 Gb TLC V-NAND
Form factor, interface: NF1, PCIe4
Sequential read speed: 3100 MB / sec
Sequential write speed: 2000 MB / sec
Random read speed: 500 thousand IOPS
Random write speed: 50 thousand IOPS
DRAM : 12 GB LPDDR 4
Self encryption function: None
Warranty: 3 years
TBW : 11,388 TB
According to Samsung, this 8TB NF1 SSD is capable of setting the capacity to 576 TB by installing 72 SSDs if it is a 2U rack mount type server. In the latter half of 2018, we also announced that we intend to introduce a large capacity model of NF1 SSD.
