Intel has announced two types of SSD that for the data center with the "Intel SSD DC S4500," "DC S4600". S4500 / S4600 are both form factor 2.5-inch SSD, already that the supply to the market has been started.

The S4600 / S4500 series is an SSD adopting Intel's 2nd generation 3D NAND equipped with a new SATA controller and firmware, which is an enterprise storage developed for replacing old HDD to SSD. SATA 3 is adopted as the interface.

The S4500 is a capacity-oriented model prepared up to 7.68 TB.

The maximum capacity of S4600 is 3.84TB, but it is more reliable model with higher durability.

Also, "Intel SSD DC D4500 / D4502 / D4600" which adopts dual port for redundancy will be shipped from the third quarter of 2017 (July to September).

In addition to the SSD of the 2.5 inch form factor of S4500 / S4600, D4500 / D4502 / D4600, Intel also released a 1-U size SSD form factor "Ruler" that can be installed in a rack server. Although HDD, which was mainstream storage so far, was 3.5 inches / 2.5 inches in size, SSD of memory storage can be made thinner and more compact than PCI - Express card, M.2 etc. So, as a new standard perfect for a 1U rack, Intel advocated a storage case with a shape like a thin, long and thin "ruler".

Intel does not disclose detailed information on Ruler, but said that it will achieve 1 PB at maximum with 1 U size. Regarding the release of Ruler, I will only state that it will be released in the near future.
