Camera "Instagif NextStep" which can create an animated GIF by just pressing the shutter and check it on the spot

Before compact digital cameras and smart phones became popular, speaking of photographs, we took the process of loading the film in the camera and shooting it for development, but you can check the picture on the spot you took "instant camera"Was surprised to the world, and Polaroid's camera was so-called" Polaroid "" Pola "as a synonym of instant camera among others. A camera like a Polaroid like that resurrected in modern timesInstagif NextStep"Can create shot landscapes as short animated GIFs and can quickly see and watch them on the spot.

Shekit who created this camera. It seems that Instagif NextStep was created based on the idea of ...... if Polaroid OneStep sold by Polaroid Company was revived to the present age.

The appearance of Instagif NextStep is like a polaroid camera itself. However, it has been created with the original shape, such as no cylindrical part of the viewfinder. There is a door in the black part at the bottom of the main body, and a cartridge with a display that reproduces the animated GIF after shooting is supposed to come out.

It is equipped with a liquid crystal display on the back and it is possible to shoot while watching the actual picture.

Taking a picture of shaking hands in front of the camera like this ...

Firstly the door on the front opens up.

Next, take out the cartridge. This cartridge also has a liquid crystal display.

And after a few seconds, animation GIF of about 3 seconds was played on the display. At this time, the image is displayed so as to appear fairly at first, but this is also the result of shekit's programming to produce polaroid appearance.

Shekit himself draws drawings and creates Instagif NextStep. First of all modeling with 3D CAD ......

Output parts with 3D printer. Then we will assemble each part.

This is the design drawing of the part to load / unload the cartridge. It is designed to take pictures with the exclusive cartridge that you made yourself in the front opening also inserted.

It seems that only the loading mechanism is taken out. The cartridge rides on a flat table and slides inside the camera by the four wheels on the left and right.

And the real thing is kore. It is a unique advantage of 3D printers that you can create your own original physical design as it is.

In and out of cartridges is done by a combination of gear and motor.

It seems that we are actually wearing a motor and testing it. This unit is inside the camera.

Raspberry Pi 3 (CamPi) is used for the camera body and Raspberry Pi Zero W (SnapPi) is used for the cartridge, the processor part which can be said as the heart part of the camera is based on Raspberry Pi. The back side of the lens that carries the camera sensor ......

Like this. It seems that a problem occurred at the time of attaching the lens, and it was said that it fell into a countermeasure by disassembling the lens.

Contents is like this. The upper left is the contents of the cartridge and it is driven by a small silver lithium ion battery. And the display in front, the mobile battery with a black square, and the camera sensor on the thing like a cylinder are built in the camera body. Raspberry Pi for the main body is integrated on the back side of the display. Moreover, it said that unnecessary USB port and LAN port have been removed so that it can fit within the camera body.

The mobile battery for power supply is placed on the pedestal part of the camera ......

On top of that, the cartridge loading mechanism is assembled and completed with the upper part with the camera etc. mounted.

The completed animation GIF created by Instagif NextStep can be seen in the following movie.

The processing at the time of shooting is as follows.

1. The camera and cartridge Raspberry Pi system are connected via a Wi-Fi ad hoc network
2. When the shutter is pressed, Raspberry Pi (CamPi) of the camera body creates an animation GIF of 3 seconds in length and is wirelessly transmitted to the cartridge Raspberry Pi (SnapPi)
3. When the transfer is completed, the motor of the loading mechanism operates to discharge the cartridge.
Four. Only one piece of GIF data can be stored in the cartridge. When the cartridge is inserted again and shooting is performed, the data is overwritten.
