The late Steve Jobs asked Mr. Janof to redesign the logo in 1976. When Mr. Janof takes the final design to Jobs, the design is adopted smoothly, and after that the 22 years from 1976 to 1998 "logo with gnawed rainbow color" appeared to be used It was. And since there are changes in coloring, "Jelly-apple logo" has been continued since the death of Jobs.

Mr. Janof answers the interview what this true meaning of this "gnawed apple logo" has.

interviewer:
The Apple logo is the best you can design?

Mr. Janov:
Yes. There is nothing that fits Apple's logo.

interviewer:
Did you ask Jobs "Why did you name the brand Apple?"

Mr. Janov:
I have never actually asked. Only for a while, he knew that he got an idea there because he was a fruitist, living in a farm in Northern California or a pasture. They had a candidate list that decided the company name necessary for signing the contract, and the favorite among them was "Apple". I thought that Steve Wozniak could be appealed to Apple Records, but there was no better idea than Apple and the company name was decided by Apple.

interviewer:
Please tell me the reason why the apple is bitten.

ByIvo Posthumus

Mr. Janov:
The story changes shape from being conveyed from person to person. I made a design that bite a logo to make the apple a silhouette that looks like an "apple" rather than another round fruit. But ten years later, another thing was written when I was reading a book on why I decided to design an apple that broke Apple's logo design. That story was more interesting than the reason I actually designed, the story was conveyed from person to person, everyone got to believe. I believe people believe in these stories not because they just love the decoration of devices and logos, but because they feel a special connection to the story.

interviewer:
How was the response of Steve Jobs when the logo was ahead?

Mr. Janov:
He nodded with a smile, he did not talk much. I did not need to market ideas, and I found that they both liked the idea and that they worked.

interviewer:
A colorful stripped apple indicates that Apple's display is full color, but did the audience understand it?

ByBrendan Wilkinson

Mr. Janov:
The colorful streak pattern expresses the difference between a competitive company and Apple, but there are other functions as well. One of the biggest challenges in designing this logo was to show "friendly" that people bring their computers home and make it available to all family members. Since the computers at that time included cold and negative implications, I wanted to make the Apple computer a warm positive image.

interviewer:
How do you think this logo has brought about the success of Apple?

Mr. Janov:
Their success depends on the ability of Steve Jobs who was able to know "what is that" before people know what they want. Also, Steve's demand for high standards of function and design is also a major factor. The logo greatly helped Apple. To love for Apple products being passed on from people to people, love for the logo was also attached. If you do not love the logo you will not put Apple's logo on the rear window of the car.

interviewer:
What is the most important thing to design a good logo?

Mr. Janov:
It is simplicity. The client often brings a long list of "please be sure" for the logo. This is a failure recipe. People can not remember the simple and outstanding logo. In addition, it is also an important element of success to see repeated logos. Apple's logo appeared on every screen and helped to make it an international icon.
