I managed to travel to Azerbaijan somehow, but there was a building where Mr. Zaha designed the design. If the new National Stadium that became illusions was also completed, it may have been this way.

◆ Azerbaijan
I applied for visa in Tbilisi, Georgia, which is a neighbor country, and using a night train,AzerbaijanI went to the capital city of Baku. It is a country I do not hear in Japan, but it is situated on the west bank of the Caspian Sea, bordering Georgia, Armenia and Iran. The word to be seen in town is similar to Turkish. It looks like Turkish as well. However, since it was under the control of the former Soviet Union, Russian can also pass. Both Kebab, Hammam, Pilosiki and Vodka were there, and the country where Turkey and Russia were involved.

It is in front of the central station where we had an atmosphere like Islamic area.

◆ Heidar · Aliyev · Center
Azerbaijan is an oil producing country with an oil field in the Caspian Sea. Baku, the booming economy with unprecedented oil money, has a number of strange large buildings built. One of them was Mr. Zaha designed "Heydar Aliyev Center"had. It is a comprehensive cultural facility that houses museums, concert venues, exhibition halls, etc., with the name of the former president.

Because it was a short stay, it was troublesome to use public transportation, so we took a walk from the place we stayed and visited. When a strangely shaped building that has never been seen so far jumps into sight, an unexpected surprise voice will spill over.

I found a strange building in front of the center.


There was a big display inside which it was possible to observe the local venue (Expo Azerbaijan pavilion) of Milan Expo which is currently being done in real time.

Depending on where you are, the center will show you a number of facial expressions. There is no one same face. It has a simple appearance with only two, white panel or window glass. The refreshing pure white building was like a cloud emerging in a clear blue sky. Lean and sophisticated design. A world like a dream is spreading.

When I go around the building, this is a strange figure again.


When I looked around behind, it became a near future futuristic form likely to be in space cities. The necked portion of the back impresses a special shape even more.


Curved design creates a mysterious world.


Even in a pure white sand dunes, as if we got lost.


I have not seen such a building.


In the basement of the center, parking spaces are also made.

If it is a cultural facility, is it even a unique shape like this?


◆ The inside of the building is like this
While walking toward the building, I was afraid of the violent delinquency from the loose belly that continued from Georgia, so I did not understand well since I was aiming for the rest, but I bought a ticket and went inside. It is unknown whether you can enter without a ticket. What I got is an admission ticket at the exhibition hall that introduces the culture of Azerbaijan, but there is an area where you can not enter without other tickets in the hall. It seems to be strictly prohibited to shoot with the camera, leaving the luggage in the locker. Even so saying, everyone in the hall smash hospitality ....... I checked with a security person and said, "If it is okay with a smartphone," I took pictures of the interior, even though it was a low-spec smart smart camera.

Glass walls incorporate sufficient light into the building. The white color used throughout has made the inside of a sufficiently bright building even brighter.

Unfortunately, the decision of Zaha at the new National Stadium is a change decision. Even Mr. Zaha talked about design, construction cost, design overview etc.Presentation MovieIt is worth seeing once about the contents that stuck to not only appearance but also functionality. In addition, since it shows the intention to rejoin the competition to be held again, Mr. Zaha and the future of the new National Stadium can not keep an eye out.

Even so, I was touched by the unexpected buildings, even if I was not interested in architecture. It was a brief schedule, but it was nice to see the architectural design of Mr. Zaha with this eye.
