2.5-inch 160GB notebook flash memory appears
From Sony last MayVaio 'type U' equipped with 16 GB flash memory instead of HDD was announcedThe other day, 160 GB flash memory corresponding to ten times capacity was announced.
The type of flash memory that was installed in "type U" is a 1.8 inch model, and what we announced this time is that it is a 2.5 inch model, but this capacity surge will be surprised in less than a year.
And it is a drive that uses flash memory instead of this HDD, but it seems to be called "Solid State Drive (SSD)".
Details are as follows.
Adtron Solid State Flash Disks with Data Security
According to this release, the SSD announced by Adtron in the United States seems to be available from 32 GB to a maximum of 160 GB models for both SATA compatible "A25 FB" and IDE compatible "I 25 FB" series. The reading / writing speed is 70 MB / sec.
Unfortunately, models with 32 GB or less are 9.5 mm thick and can be replaced with conventional HDDs, whereas models with capacities larger than 32 GB will have a thickness of 15 mm, so PCs to be replaced will be limited pattern.
By the way, it seems to be shipped in February 2007, but at the beginning it will be shipped only as a commercial or industrial model. It is where the sale of models for general-purpose is waiting, but how much will it cost this?
