EU regulations may lead to the release of an Apple Pencil with a replaceable battery in early 2027.

The European Union (EU) is scheduled to implement battery regulations from mid-February 2027 that will require batteries in all consumer electronics, including smartphones, to be removable. To comply with these regulations, Apple is planning a 'battery-replaceable Apple Pencil ,' according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple's internal affairs.

According to reporter Gurman, Apple is developing two new models of the Apple Pencil, one of which is an updated version of the lower-priced Apple Pencil codenamed 'B582.' The B582 will not support wireless charging and will require a wired connection via a USB-C port to charge the battery.

Another model is the 'B632,' an improved version of the Apple Pencil Pro that was released in 2024 alongside the M4-equipped iPad Pro .

Gurman reports that Apple plans to make the batteries in these two Apple Pencils replaceable in order to comply with EU battery regulations. The current Apple Pencil models have low repair availability because the parts are held together with adhesive. However, if the Apple Pencil's battery becomes replaceable, repairs will become much easier.
