My paperback copy of 'Let Me Make It, Ejima-san!' that I ordered from Amazon has arrived. The image below shows a label that says 'No Reprinting Allowed,' but this is only attached to 'proof prints' that publishers can order as samples before release, and is not included with regular orders.

The spine was designed by the author, Benihaa.

The back cover is included as a work introduction at the beginning of the ebook version, but it was originally created as the back cover for the print version.

The printed book version of 'Let Me Make It! Ejima-san' has 139 pages of main story and 19 pages of bonus comics, for a total of 158 pages (excluding the colophon). The thickness is approximately 1 cm.

The print edition of 'Let Me Make It, Ejima-san!' includes all the episodes from the series, as well as newly drawn episodes and behind-the-scenes stories. The first episode of the prototype version of 'Sensitive Girl and Complicated Boy' is only included in the ebook version.

'Let Me Make It, Ejima-san!' is printed in B6 size, making it slightly smaller than the previously released paper books '

The Hero's Side Hustle Life as a Corporate Slave ' and ' I'm a Gasman!! '.

Here's what they look like when stacked vertically to compare their sizes.

When I arranged them upright, imagining how they would look on a bookshelf, it looked like this:

Furthermore, when transferring data created for ebooks to print books, it is usually necessary to create 'margins' (blank spaces) on all sides to account for trimming. However, in the print version of 'Let Me Make It! Ejima-san,' the author, Benihaa, has meticulously created the manuscript data, so on pages where she wants to display characters larger, she has adjusted the size of the characters to make them extend beyond the page, and extended the background to the edge of the page, among other clever techniques.

Although I was creating the manuscript while adhering to the manuscript settings for a print book, when I first submitted the manuscript for the print book to Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), I received a message saying, 'We have found some issues that appear to need to be corrected before publication.'

The correction instructions sent from KDP state 'which pages are problematic,' but they don't specify 'where exactly the problem lies.' This time, I had calculated all the margins when creating the manuscript, and the parts that extended beyond the margins were intentionally designed that way, so I explained this and inquired about the specific parts that needed correcting. As a result, KDP carefully explained exactly which pages and parts were causing problems during the review process. For example, on the following page, the title 'Behind the Scenes of the Meeting 2' appeared to be inside the margin in the preview, but in reality, it was overlapping with the margin line.

Furthermore, in the colophon below, the black dividing line extends beyond the margin. The rule is that 'margins are areas that may be cut or misaligned during trimming, so content that would be problematic if cut off should not be placed there.' While it's not a problem if simple design elements like the one below are cut off, the document will not pass the review process if they are cut off.

One of the reasons we struggled this time was KDP's preview function. After uploading the manuscript for the print book to KDP, you need to check the preview on KDP, where an automated check called 'quality check' is performed. If text extends beyond the margins, the 'quality check' will display an error, but this time there were no pages where text extended beyond the margins. Instead, pages where text overlapped the margin lines were flagged during the human review, which made it difficult to detect. In the end, by correcting all the titles and page numbers that were slightly overlapping the margin lines, we were able to release the print version of 'Let Me Make It, Ejima-san!'.

'Let Me Make It, Ejima-san!' is available on Amazon's Kindle Store. The paperback version is more expensive due to printing costs, but the ebook is available for less than half the price, and Kindle Unlimited members can read it for free anytime, so be sure to get the version that interests you.
