In light of these circumstances, Micron, a semiconductor giant based in Boise, Idaho, has announced it will accelerate its fab construction and technology investments in the United States, expanding its investment to over $250 billion by 2035. The investment will accelerate Micron's long-term goal of producing 40% of its DRAM in the United States.

The large-scale fab that Micron has been constructing in Cray, New York since January 2026 is expected to become the largest semiconductor manufacturing base in the United States once completed. To date, Micron and the construction company, Gilbane Building Company, have placed orders with subcontractors totaling approximately $675 million (about 10.9 billion yen).

Up to four fabrication bureaus are planned for New York State, and this project, which is said to be the largest in the state's history, is expected to create around 50,000 jobs.

In addition, Micron is also developing manufacturing projects in Idaho and Virginia, with the first wafer production at its first fab in Idaho expected to begin in mid-2027, and production at its second fab in late 2028.

Speaking at the fabrication ceremony for the fab, Micron Chairman, President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra said, 'As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, data and memory are the foundation of the modern economy. To meet this critical juncture, Micron will expand its domestic investment to more than $250 billion by 2035.'

New York Governor Kathy Hoeckle said of Micron's fab construction project, 'This is the largest private investment in New York State history and is already benefiting the people, the economy, and local businesses in New York. With the potential to create up to 50,000 jobs, we are building the future of American memory manufacturing here in Central New York.'
