Facebook introduces a new 'AI mode' that retrieves public information from across the entire platform.

Meta announced new AI features for Facebook on June 15, 2026. The core of these features is 'AI Mode,' which aims to make searching, creating, and sharing content easier on Facebook.

AI Mode is a new search feature that uses Meta AI to answer questions on Facebook. Instead of a regular list of links, it generates answers based on the content and recommendations of posts publicly shared on Meta apps such as Groups and Reels. Meta explains that this system allows users to obtain information based on the perspectives and experiences of real people.
TechCrunch, an IT news media outlet, points out that 'the reliability of the answers will be a challenge as long as AI summarizes public posts and group conversations.' Because it relies on posts from ordinary users rather than professionally verified information, there is a risk that outdated or misleading information may be included.
In addition to search functionality, AI-powered editing features will also be added. For example, when sharing photos and videos from your camera roll, it will suggest collage templates to summarize recent outings with friends, and transition effects to create smooth video montages. These sharing suggestions are opt-in, and users can turn them off at any time.
Meta positions its AI-powered editing and sharing features as 'a function that can transform easily overlooked photos and videos into shareable works with just one tap.'
Furthermore, the AI-powered photo presets allow you to change clothing, hairstyles, and accessories. For example, if you're a sports fan, you can virtually wear a team jersey by selecting 'Wear It' from 'AI Edit' in Stories, or by selecting 'Wardrobe' from 'Restyle profile picture with AI' in your profile picture.
TechCrunch sees this new feature as part of Facebook's ongoing expansion of AI capabilities. In February 2026, a feature to animate still profile pictures was introduced, followed in March by an AI feature that automatically replies to potential buyers on behalf of sellers on Facebook Marketplace, and in early June, an AI assistant for creators was also launched.
Meta's push to implement AI can be seen as part of a strategy to make Facebook a more user-friendly service that users will spend more time on. TechCrunch pointed out that 'Meta is integrating AI into the search, create, and share stages to reduce the effort it takes for users to find information, create posts, and take the next step on Facebook.'
