The trailer for 'Chikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island' has been released. This film is the first movie adaptation of Nagano's popular work 'Chikawa,' and is scheduled to be released nationwide on July 24th, 2026 (Friday). The film is based on the popular long-running episode 'Siren Arc' from the original manga, and depicts the adventures of Chikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi on a mysterious island.

The newly released trailer offers a glimpse into the story set on the island, as well as the first reveal of the opening theme song, 'Kutsuzure,' sung by Hachiware. It was also announced that Tsuguo Mogami will voice Jiro Shima and Minori Suzuki will voice Siren. Animation production is being handled by CyPix, and under the complete supervision of Nagano, the world of 'Chiikawa' will be depicted on a scale only possible in a film.
