Some suggest that the AI development company Anthropic genuinely believes it can create a god.



Anthropic, the developer of the AI tool Claude, is actively engaging in

dialogues with philosophers and religious groups to learn about the ethics and morals of AI. Venture capitalist Bill Gurley has suggested that Anthropic may believe they can create a god.

Appearing on the popular All-In Podcast, which discusses technology and economics, Gurley said, 'Anthropic is a mystery to me.'



Anthropic is a leading company in the AI industry, but at the same time, it is raising awareness of the problems and concerns that AI may bring to society. Gurley says, 'I have never seen a company that leads its field while simultaneously being the most negative about its own work.'



Gurley initially believed that Anthropic was attempting to achieve '

regulatory capture ,' and that it was actually succeeding. Regulatory capture is a phenomenon in which political groups or regulatory bodies become absorbed by the ideology of a particular company or commercial group and begin to serve its interests.



However, after reading everything he could find about Anthropic over the past 30 days, Gurley has come to believe that Anthropic might be something like '

Dr. Frankenstein .' Dr. Frankenstein is the name of the doctor who created the ugly monster in Mary Shelley's novel ' Frankenstein .'



When Mr. Gurley delved into the statements of those involved with Anthropic, he noticed that many of them felt it was their responsibility to create a 'species superior to humanity,' and that they were excited about it.



At the end of his blog post '

Machines of Loving Grace ,' written by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodi, there is a passage that reads, 'I like to imagine a cybernetic ecosystem where we are freed from labor, reconnected with nature, returned to our mammalian brothers and sisters, and watched over by loving, benevolent machines.'



Gurley pointed out that this passage sounds as if he were the ruler of the world.



Furthermore, Amodey wrote in his blog, 'This is an AI-driven capitalist economy, and it may be a system where resources are distributed to humans based on criteria that the AI system determines should be used to reward them.'



Gurley stated, 'So I don't think of Anthropic as writing software. I think of them as giving birth to gods.'



Jason Calacanis, host of the All-In Podcast, points out, 'I'd call these megalomania. Anthropics believe they are so powerful that they can create gods, and by creating gods, they believe they will become like

Prometheus .' Prometheus is a god in Greek mythology who is said to have given fire to humankind and to have created them.



Karacanis stated, 'To think you can create God is literally the ultimate level of narcissism and megalomania.'



Gurley's remarks have elicited a variety of reactions. Jeffrey Snowver, who studies AI accelerationists and skeptics at Harvard Law School, points out that both AI accelerationists and safety proponents believe that AI is an act of creating a god. The difference, he says, is that accelerationists see AI as a benevolent god, while safety proponents see it as a terrifying god that will harm humans.



Another X user pointed out that Anthropic isn't the only one with a vision to build superhuman AI; OpenAI and xAI also have similar visions.
