The patent acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment relates to an AI system that automatically analyzes video footage of games played by users and generates images in a format optimized for posting on social media.
The AI analyzes user behavior and collects all kinds of data, including kills, victories, unusual events, decisions players make, and important moments during gameplay. This allows it to learn the user's play style and common actions, and select moments that are special to the user rather than just ordinary ones. For example, a beginner's first victory is certainly a suitable highlight, but a veteran player's victory is just an ordinary moment. The system is designed so that veteran players will have moments that are unique to them.
The system uses machine learning to select striking moments and passes the images and text to image generation AI such as Stable Diffusion. The image generation AI then creates a collage image and returns it to the system, which the user can then share on social media.
Furthermore, it is envisioned that the authenticity of the generated content will be proven using NFTs, allowing it to be owned and traded as a collector's item, 3D printed as a figurine or medal, and used to generate video of game moments.
Sony states, 'Gamers often share memorable moments with friends through social media platforms such as Discord, Twitch, YouTube, and Twitter. Creating such videos can be time-consuming and laborious for players because it usually requires the use of specialized software for creating videos and screenshots.'
