Gemini in Chrome is now available in Japan, allowing users to perform tasks such as 'summarizing YouTube videos' and 'editing with Nano Banana 2' via the Chrome side panel.
' Gemini in Chrome ,' which allows you to use Gemini 3.1 in the Chrome side panel, became available in Japan on April 21, 2026. You can summarize web pages that are open in multiple tabs and edit images using Nano Banana 2.

Gemini in Chrome was announced in May 2025 and was initially rolled out primarily in the United States. According to Google, it will be available in Asia, including Japan, from April 21, 2026. The GIGAZINE editorial team was not yet able to use Gemini in Chrome, so we extracted screenshots from a video posted on Google's official blog to show its various features.
When Gemini in Chrome becomes available, a 'Consult Gemini' button will appear in the upper right corner of the window. Clicking this button will open a side panel on the right side of the screen.
While playing a video on YouTube, type 'Summarize this video.'
You can now view the video content in text format.
As shown below, with multiple tabs open, you can summarize multiple web pages simultaneously.
Select the tab to have Gemini handle the processing.
Select four tabs to instruct the system to generate the comparison table.
The table was generated as instructed.
Enter an image and give editing instructions.
Nano Banana 2 launched and edited the image for me.
Gemini in Chrome has enhanced defenses against attacks such as prompt injection, thanks to a specialized team that simulates and verifies external attacks. Furthermore, it has been stated that further feature enhancements and expansion of supported regions and languages will continue.
Please note that Gemini in Chrome is not available on the Japanese iOS version of Chrome.
