You can disable the automatic translation of foreign language posts on X into Japanese in the settings.

X (formerly Twitter) now automatically translates foreign language posts into Japanese. You can also switch back to the original text using the button on the post. Instructions for disabling automatic translation are also included.

X has always had a translation function that allows users to translate into Japanese with one click, but from March 30, 2026, it will now display in Japanese from the start without requiring any button clicks.

The translated post will have 'Translated from ○○' displayed at the top. If you want to view it in the original language, simply click 'Show original.'

It instantly switched back to the original language.

To disable automatic translation, click the settings button to the right of 'Show original text'.

You can enable or disable automatic translation using the toggle switch.

X's translation function was primarily developed by Rei Hotate, a technical staff member at xAI, and is built upon Grok's multilingual capabilities. Automatic translation functionality will be rolled out to English users in late March 2026, making it easier for Japanese posts to reach people abroad.

And so, on March 30, 2026, the automatic translation function was rolled out to Japanese users as well.

Japanese posts have become a hot topic overseas, with many saying they are 'interesting,' and Elon Musk himself has commented that 'Japanese posts are fantastic.'

Incidentally, the number of X users by country is highest in the United States and second in Japan. X's official Japanese account (X Corp. Japan) also posted, 'Thanks to Grok's automatic translation, the world is rapidly discovering how much Japan loves X...!'
