On March 4, 2026, Nikita Beer, head of product at X, announced that the company had revised its policy to ban creators who post AI-generated war-related videos without disclosing that fact from its revenue sharing program. This means that users who post AI-generated war-related videos without disclosing that they were AI-generated will be suspended from the program for 90 days for the first violation, and permanently banned from the program for subsequent violations.

Beer's post is below:

'Today, we are updating our Creator Revenue Share terms to maintain the integrity of content on Timeline and prevent manipulation of the program. During times of war, it is crucial that people have access to accurate information from the ground. However, with today's AI technology, it is easy to create content that misleads people. Going forward, users who post AI-generated videos of armed conflict without disclosing that they were created with AI will be suspended from the Creator Revenue Share program for 90 days. Subsequent violations will result in permanent ban from the program. Posts with community notes or content that includes metadata (or other signals) from the generative AI tool will be flagged. We are continuously evolving our policies and products to ensure X is trustworthy in these critical moments.'

Regarding this, technology media Engadget pointed out that 'this policy revision is surprisingly limited, applying only to creators who are enrolled in the platform's revenue sharing program and AI-generated war-related videos, and not to other AI-generated content in general.'

According to Engadget, X uses community notes and metadata to detect 'AI-generated war-related videos posted without disclosing that they were generated by AI.'

X's policy revision appears to have been prompted by the launch of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran on February 28, 2026. The US released an overview of the first 72 hours of the operation, revealing that more than 1,700 targets had been attacked across Iran.
