Google has released Lyria 3, a music generation AI, so I tried making a song with Japanese vocals.

Google released the beta version of its music generation AI, Lyria 3, on February 18, 2026. Simply instruct Gemini on the music you want to create and it will generate a 30-second song with vocals. Since it's already available in Japan, we tried generating a song with Japanese vocals.

Use Lyria 3 to create music tracks in the Gemini app

First, access the web app version of Gemini and then click 'Create Music.'

Select a track that is close to the atmosphere of the song you want to create, then specify the content. In this case, I chose the track 'Kawaii Metal,' then entered the following instruction: 'A song with Japanese vocals that expresses my love for the internet. Include the phrase 'I love the internet.'' and clicked the send button.

The generation process using Lyria 3 began immediately, and a 30-second piece of music was output in about a minute.

Click the play button to listen to the song, and there are subtitle and download buttons in the top right corner. The cover art was generated by Nano Banana.

Songs can be downloaded as a video file including cover art, or as just the audio file. Video files are in MP4 format, and audio files are in MP3 format.

Below is an example of an Internet Love song generated by Lyria 3. In addition to the instructed phrase 'I love the Internet,' the song also includes phrases like 'Open the screen and you'll see paradise' and 'A sparkling digital world.' The rhyming of 'World Wide Warrior' and 'You Know the Power' is also impressive.

Lyria 3 was developed with careful attention to copyright and partnership agreements, and is designed to mimic the atmosphere and style of artists you specify, rather than completely imitating them. It also includes a filter that compares the similarity of generated music with existing content. Furthermore, a digital watermark called ' SynthID ' is embedded in the music, making it clear that it was created by AI.

Lyria 3 is available to users aged 18 and over, and is available to free Gemini users. Paid subscribers have increased usage limits. It's available in Japanese, English, Korean, Spanish, German, Hindi, French, and Portuguese. A smartphone app is scheduled to be released in the next few days.
