The ad display test has begun for users in the US. Here's an example of how the ad will display: First, enter a question into ChatGPT.

ChatGPT will then output an answer. The answer text and images will not contain ads, and will display ChatGPT-generated content as usual.

Ads are displayed in the form of cards at the bottom of the answers and are labeled 'Sponsored' so that they are immediately recognizable as ads.

When you tap on the ad, the link will be displayed in the in-app browser.

Advertisements are displayed that are optimized for each user based on their previous conversation history, ad click history, etc. Furthermore, the only information sent to advertisers is statistical information such as 'the number of times the ad was displayed' and 'the number of times the ad was clicked'; the user's conversation history is never sent to advertisers.
ChatGPT app allows you to delete ad data, disable personalized ads, and even hide individual ads.

Ads will only be shown to ChatGPT's free users, who can choose to hide ads in exchange for a stricter conversation limit. During the test, ads will not be shown to users under the age of 18.
According to a CNBC report , OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sent a message to employees on February 6, 2026, saying, 'ChatGPT's monthly growth rate has recovered to over 10%, Codex has grown 50% compared to last week,' and 'We will release an updated version of the chat model this week.'
