On December 11, 2025, Amazon announced a new AI-powered feature for its Kindle called 'Ask this Book.' According to Amazon, Ask this Book acts as an 'expert reading assistant' that quickly answers questions about plot details, character relationships, thematic elements, and more, without interrupting your reading flow. Answers are provided in context based on your current reading location to avoid spoilers.
To use Ask this Book, tap and hold any text in the book you're reading to select it, choose 'Ask this Book,' and tap a suggested question or type your own.

For example, if you select a character's name, the AI assistant will tell you details about that character without giving away any spoilers, which is useful if you get lost while reading and wonder, 'Where did this character appear and what did he or she do?'

'Ask this Book answers cannot be shared or copied and are only available to readers who purchase or rent the book,' Amazon spokesperson Ale Iraheta told Publishers Lunch . He also said that Ask this Book is always on and that authors and publishers do not have the option to opt out of the feature.
Ask this Book is available for US Kindle users via the Kindle iOS app . It is expected to be available on Kindle devices and Android OS in 2026. At the time of writing, it has not been announced when it will be available in other regions or languages.
