A user on Reddit reported that when they zoomed in on a photo taken with their Motorola Razr Android smartphone in the Photos app on iOS 26.1, all the photos turned red. According to the user, the issue only occurred on an iPhone running iOS 26.1, not on an iPad running iPadOS 18. Restarting the iPhone also didn't fix the issue.

The above post is accompanied by comments such as, 'The same thing happens when I view photos taken with a Samsung S25+ on an iPhone 17 Pro,' and 'Photos taken with my partner's Android turn red when zoomed in. When I try to crop them, they turn black and white.'

In another post , a phenomenon in which the photo turns red was revealed in a movie as shown below.

In the Photos app, if you tap on a photo thumbnail (left) to enlarge it (right), a filter will be applied that turns the entire image bright red.

In this movie, you can also see the phenomenon of 'when you try to trim, it turns black and white.'

The thumbnail preview shows the photo in its natural color, but if you tap on the photo to enlarge it, it appears to have a reddish filter applied, but if you open the red image and tap 'Undo' from the Edit menu, the filter appears to be removed.

The cause of the bug is unknown, but as of the time of writing, all of the affected photos were taken on devices other than iPhones. 9to5Mac speculates that the issue may be related to the way the Photos app interprets the color profiles embedded in photos.
