Apple CEO Tim Cook once told CNBC in 2019, 'When this is all over, Apple's greatest contribution to society will be healthcare.' As such, Apple has been focusing on the healthcare field for a long time, but according to Mark Gurman, a reporter familiar with Apple products, the company plans to roll out several new features in the future.

One of them is a wearable device that measures blood sugar levels non-invasively, meaning without harming the body. The idea is to add a sensor to the Apple Watch to let users know if they are at risk of developing diabetes and help them avoid full-blown symptoms, but it is said that this is still years away from being on the market.

Apple is also working on other health sensors, such as blood oxygen and blood pressure sensors, but has run into some issues. That said, Apple is working on something that may get results sooner: Project Mulberry, or Health+, which will involve a completely revamped Health app and a Health Coach, a feature that will feature an AI agent that mimics a real doctor.

The app will collect health information from users' iPhones and Apple Watches, and then use AI to analyze the data and provide personalized advice to each user. For example, if a user's heart rate is not good, the app will advise them about their risk of heart disease.

Apple's existing Health app allows users to input data about the carbohydrates and caffeine in their food intake, etc. Garman said that this dietary management function may be revamped to provide dietary advice and nutritional analysis features.

'This project is a priority for Sumbul Desai, a physician who has run Apple's health team for several years. The company's chief operating officer, Jeff Williams, is also closely involved. Healthcare-related work is a top priority for Apple's health team and is where it is currently focused,' Gurman said.
