Bluesky now lets you post 3-minute videos and mute accounts more quickly

On March 10, 2025 local time, the Bluesky development team announced the release of 'Version 1.99' of the official app. The new version of Bluesky allows users to post videos up to 3 minutes long, makes it easier to mute accounts, and has the ability to sort DMs from unknown users into a separate inbox.

The following features have been added to 'Version 1.99' announced by the Bluesky development team:

・Post a 3-minute video
- A separate request inbox to sort DMs sent by unknown users
-Faster account muting

Regarding the ability to post videos up to three minutes long, the development team jokingly said, 'Videos can be up to three minutes long! In other words, you can post the entire movie ' Bee Movie ' in just 30 posts (please don't test it).'

In addition to tools to reduce spam DMs, version 1.99 now also lets you sort messages from unknown users into a separate inbox so you can decide whether to approve them or not. As shown below, when you receive a DM from an unknown user, it will appear as a 'Chat request' separate from regular DMs, and you must tap on it to see the DM.

You can decide individually whether or not to approve DMs sent from unknown users.

Previously, to mute a specific account, you had to go to the account's profile screen, but with version 1.99, you can mute directly from the post. I actually tried out the mute function on the iOS version of the Bluesky app. Open the updated Bluesky app and tap the menu icon in the bottom right of the post.

Then, a 'Mute Account' option appeared at the bottom of the menu. By tapping this, you can easily mute an account without having to open its profile screen.

Additionally, new community translations for Welsh , Scottish Gaelic and Esperanto have been reported.
