'Duck.ai' is now available, allowing anyone to use GPT-4o mini and Claude 3 for free and anonymously.

DuckDuckGo, a search engine that protects user privacy and does not personalize searches, has released Duck.ai , an interface for AI chatbots, to the public. Anyone can chat with chat models such as GPT-4o mini, Claude 3, and Llama 3.3 for free and anonymously.

Go to Duck.ai and click “Get Started.”

The privacy policy and terms of use will be displayed, so read them and click 'Agree'.

The Duck.ai screen looks like this.

You can select the chat model by clicking the model name displayed in the upper left. At the time of writing, you can choose from five types: GPT-4o mini, Llama 3.3 70B, Claude 3 Haiku, o3-mini, and Mistral Small 3.

As a test, I asked the five models, 'Please tell me the name of your model.' The GPT-4o mini told me, 'I'm an OpenAI language model,' but specifically, 'the GPT-3.5 version.'

For some reason, Llama 3.3 70B is called Together AI, an AI development and utilization platform.

Claude 3 Haiku gave a very detailed answer, explaining that the model information was anonymized through DuckDuckGo's privacy layer, and that the model was made by Anthropic, clearly showing his intention to be honest but withhold details.

The GPT o3-mini is as follows.

All the Mistral Samll 3 told me was that it was made by Mistral AI.

According to DuckDuckGo, chat content on Duck.ai is stored locally on your device, not on DuckDuckGo's servers, and is not used by DuckDuckGo or model providers for AI training. In addition, DuckDuckGo has contracts with all providers to ensure that stored chats are permanently deleted within 30 days.

At the time of writing, Duck.ai is free to use, with daily limits, but DuckDuckGo says it is considering paid plans in the future that would give users more flexibility and access to a more advanced chat model.
