Firefox 133 official release, adding protection against bounce tracking and improving the accuracy of automatic picture-in-picture



The official version of the web browser ' Firefox 133 ' has been released. In addition to adding bounce tracking protection to prevent users from being tracked, it also makes it easier to check tabs on other devices and improves the accuracy of the automatic picture-in-picture function.

◆ Bounce tracking protection added
A new tracking prevention feature, Bounce Tracking Protection, has been added, which detects bounce trackers based on redirect behavior and protects users from being tracked by removing cookies and site data.

To enable Bounce Tracking Protection, you must set 'Enhanced Tracking Protection' to 'Strict' in the 'Privacy & Security' tab of your settings screen.



◆ A menu to open the synced tab screen will be added to the tab overview
The Tab Overview menu, where you can see a list of your open tabs, now has a 'Tabs from Other Devices' option. Clicking it will open the 'Synced Tabs' sidebar, where you can see your tabs from other devices.



* Improved accuracy of the function that automatically opens picture-in-picture when switching tabs
The 'Picture-in-Picture: Automatically open when switching tabs' feature, available on Firefox Labs where you can try out features under development, has been improved in accuracy, and is now applicable to a wider range of sites, as well as allowing you to properly select videos to be turned into picture-in-picture.



Changes for developers
- Added support for the keepalive option to

the Fetch API .
- The Permissions API is now available in Worker contexts.
- A 'beforetoggle' event now occurs just before the dialog opens, and a 'toggle' event occurs just after.
- Uint8Array Methods for converting between Base64 and hex encoding are now available.
- Added support for image decoding via the WebCodecs API .

◆Other changes
- GPU acceleration for Canvas2D has been enabled on Firefox for Windows, improving performance.
-Cookie expiration is now determined by server time, if server time is available.

Firefox 133 also includes several security bug fixes .

The next major version, Firefox 134, is scheduled to be released on January 7, 2025 local time.
