Gusto has started serving French courses for under 2000 yen, so I tried them out and reviewed them

Starting Thursday, November 21, 2024, you can enjoy the ' Blissful French Course ' at Gusto. The Blissful French Course is a bargain at 1,990 yen (tax included), but you can enjoy authentic French cuisine supervised by

Chef Yoshiaki Shindo of the French restaurant ' Restaurant L'allium '. I was curious about what kind of food would be served, so I actually ordered it at Gusto and tried it.

Arrived at Gusto.

The menu for the blissful French course was placed on a table just inside the entrance.

At each seat, a menu for a blissful French course is posted to mark the vacant seats.

This is the menu for the blissful French course.

The order of dishes served is appetizer, soup, main dish, and dessert.

Order a blissful French course from the touch panel.

You can choose rice or bread.

You can also add red or white wine for 190 yen (tax included). This time I ordered without adding wine.

The appetizers arrived within a few minutes of ordering. From the left, they were 'endive with yuzu vinaigrette,' 'butter-sautéed scallops,' and 'marinated salmon gougeres.' Note that they were brought to us by a human, not a cat-shaped food delivery robot.

The 'Marinated Salmon Gougeres' is smoked salmon and lemon-marinated onions sandwiched between choux pastry. Although it contains lemon marinade, the sourness is not too strong, and the strong umami and saltiness of the smoked salmon are gently enveloped by the choux pastry.

This is 'endive with yuzu vinaigrette.'

Endive is a vegetable called chicory in English and kiku-kuna in Japanese, and has a slightly bitter taste. It is seasoned with an authentic sauce that has the aroma of yuzu peel, and you can enjoy the complex flavors of exotic cuisine.

The 'Sautéed Butter Scallops' had almost no buttery taste, and my impression was that the scallops were very soft. It didn't have as much impact as the other two appetizers.

Just as we finished the appetizers, the cauliflower soup with crispy pancetta and croutons was brought out.

The cauliflower soup is white in color, so it's hard to imagine what it tastes like, but when you put it in your mouth, it has a rich taste like concentrated cauliflower. The soup is finely foamed and creamy, and feels heavy on your tongue. It feels more like a soup to eat than a soup to drink.

The pancetta adds a nice salty and meaty flavour.

This is the main dish, '100% beef hamburger steak with Perigueux sauce and burdock chips.'

If you get closer to the plate it looks like this.

The hamburger steak was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The sweet taste of the fat came to the forefront when I ate it. The sauce was sweet and can be enjoyed by both adults and children. Both the hamburger steak and the sauce were of very high quality. However, although the menu said that the sauce contained truffles, I could not detect the distinctive truffle aroma.

The burdock chips have a soft texture and are difficult to stick with a fork, so it was difficult to eat them with the hamburger steak.

A mysterious purple lump.

When I cracked it with a fork, the yolk came out. This is 'egg marinated in red wine.' The mellowness of the yolk and the flavor of the red wine mixed with the hamburger steak sauce gave it a more mature taste.

The warm vegetables were like the soft warm vegetables you'd get at a family restaurant, and the taste reminded me of the time I was eating at Gusto.

The dessert is 'Blancmange Praline'.

This is what it looks like from above.

Blancmange is made by solidifying milk and sugar with gelatin, and praline is made by pouring caramelized sugar over roasted nuts. The black board with the Gusto logo is made of chocolate and is edible.

When I tried it, the texture was 'firm milk pudding' and the taste was 'milk pudding with the addition of a nutty flavor.'

By the way, the Blissful French Course can also be ordered a la carte, with appetizers at 450 yen (tax included), soup at 350 yen (tax included), main course at 1,290 yen (tax included), and dessert at 350 yen (tax included). It is more economical to order the course than to order the dishes a la carte, but if there is a dish you like, you can order it a la carte or order it separately the next time you visit.
