Steam now requires users to disclose if they use kernel-level anti-cheat software

Steam now has a new section on its store page for developers to disclose if they are using anti-cheat tools. Going forward, if developers release a game that has anti-cheat tools that work at

the kernel level, they will be required to disclose that they are using those tools.

In the 'Edit Store Page' section of Steam for developers, a new field has been added where developers can indicate whether or not they are using anti-cheat tools.

When the developer follows the instructions to fill out the form, they will be shown a list of several anti-cheat tools, and they can select the tool they use, or fill in the information themselves if they don't.

If your game uses kernel-level anti-cheat tools, you will have to check a box indicating that you use such tools during the information entry process.

The information entered in this way will be displayed on the Steam store page and made available to users.

If you are using client or server-side anti-cheat tools that are not kernel-level, entering the information is optional, but the Steam team encourages you to do so as they believe it would be beneficial for players to know about your anti-cheat tool implementation.

This will be mandatory for any new games released with kernel-level anti-cheat tools, and Steam is also asking for older games to edit their information, stating that it will 'review existing games and contact partners whose games fall into this category.'

Even if developers already have anti-cheat tools listed somewhere on their pages, they are asked to fill them in again in the new field.

'Recently, we've heard from more developers looking for ways to properly share information about their game's anti-cheat with players. At the same time, players have also asked for more transparency about the anti-cheat tools used in their games, as well as the presence of additional software installed within their games. With this feedback in mind, we've added this field,' Steam said.
