YouTube is testing a UI that hides the release date and number of views in the video list

It has been reported that YouTube is testing a new UI that does not display the publication date and number of views in the video list. It is not certain that the new UI will be officially introduced, but it seems that the disadvantage of not being able to tell at a glance whether a video is the latest is a big one.

According to vidIQ, a developer of YouTube analytics tools, YouTube is testing a UI that does not display the publication date and number of views. The video list displayed in recommendations and search results usually displays the 'video thumbnail,' 'video title,' 'number of days since the video was published,' and 'number of views of the video.' However, when looking at the screenshots released by vidIQ, the 'number of days since the video was published' and 'number of views of the video' are not displayed.

The watch page for each video also displays the video's release date and number of views, but it is unclear whether these remain visible on the watch page.

When YouTube tests its UI or services, it only applies to a limited number of users, and then it is made available only to users who subscribe to the paid plan YouTube Premium before being made public. Therefore, the new UI confirmed this time will not be reflected on YouTube immediately, but it is possible that in the future the video publication date and number of views will no longer be displayed in video lists such as recommendations and search results.

In vitIQ's post, there were many comments that were relatively positive about hiding the number of views, but negative about hiding the publication date.

'I think removing the view count is interesting, but I don't agree with removing the publication date. If you're looking for the most up-to-date information, you need to look at when the video was uploaded.'

'I want to know how old the video is. I don't care about the number of views, but if I'm looking for something up-to-date, I don't want to watch a video from six years ago, right?'

'While it would be nice to have a publication date visible, hiding the view counts may encourage more creative output and encourage creators to expand their horizons without fearing the low view counts that plague their channels.'

'It's really beneficial for smaller creators. A lot of people skip over videos just because they don't have many views, but I don't think that reflects the quality of the video. By removing the views, it might really level the playing field a little bit.'
