Previously, to change the email address of your 'Apple Account,' you had to delete the previous email address, enter a new address, and go through a verification process. With iOS 18.1, this process has been simplified, allowing you to add a new address without deleting the old one.

Additionally, an option has been added to set the new email address as a 'primary email address,' allowing users to designate their preferred email address as the preferred way to receive and send email of all kinds.

After updating to iOS 18.1, users can change their email address in the Apple Account settings.

I checked it on an iPhone with iOS 18.1 Beta 4 installed. First, tap Account Settings from the Settings app.

Tap 'Sign-in and security.'

Tap the email address that is already registered.

You can change your email address by tapping 'Change Email Address' and then tapping 'Primary Email' to switch your primary email address.

Previously, you weren't allowed to change the primary email address on your Apple Account, and this address was forced to be visible to others when sharing documents or sending calendar invites, raising privacy concerns.

If you delete an @iCloud.com or @me.com email address from your device, you will no longer be able to use that address to contact people via FaceTime or iMessage, and you will no longer be able to send or receive emails from that address, although in theory you could still receive emails from that address by setting up an alias.

iOS 18.1 is expected to be released around October 28, 2024. At the time of writing, iOS 18.1 Beta 7 has been released , with some cosmetic changes and some minor additions to the Settings app.
