According to Qantas, on flight QF59 on October 6, 2024, a malfunction occurred in the passenger monitor screen, which was supposed to allow passengers to select the content they wanted to watch, so the film selected by the crew was shown on all screens at once.

To decide which movie to show, the crew conducted a survey of some of the passengers. As a result, ' Daddio ,' which will be released in 2023, was selected. 'Daddio' contains explicit sexual depictions and is known to have an 'R' rating, which requires minors under the age of 17 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian when watching it.

As a result of the survey, 'Daddio' was screened on all passengers' personal monitors for approximately one hour. In response, some passengers reported that 'the film shown by Qantas was extremely inappropriate, yet there was no way to pause the screening or turn off the screen.'

About an hour after the screening began, the movie on the monitor was switched to content for children. However, passengers criticized the switch, saying, 'It must have been very unpleasant for families and passengers with children until the movie was switched to a children's movie.'

In response to the incident, a Qantas spokesperson said: 'The film was clearly not suitable to be screened on all monitors and we sincerely apologise to the customer for the experience.' 'A family film was shown on all screens for the remainder of the flight. This is our standard procedure when a monitor malfunction prevents passengers from selecting the film they wish to watch.'

Qantas also said: 'We are reviewing how films are selected.'
