The new feature 'Communities,' unveiled at 'Made On YouTube 2024,' promotes direct interaction with fans and interaction between fans through a dedicated communication space set up within the creator's channel.

Communities allow a creator's subscribers to chat and discuss with each other, allow fans to share photos and posts, and interact with other fans and creators themselves. Creators can also control who can post in their spaces on their community pages.

'There's something so gratifying about finding a group of people who understand you, and Communities is a place where creators and fans can build intimate connections together,' said Bangalore Kaba, director of product management at YouTube. 'Communities allows users to build deeper connections around the topics and videos they love, post updates, ask for opinions and ideas from their subscribers and even engage in debates.'

YouTube has previously offered

a community posting feature, but when asked how it differs from the previous community feature, YouTube said, 'The current community posting feature focuses on creators' latest videos and posts. However, we want to create a space where subscribers can chat directly with each other and with creators.'

YouTube has already tested Communities on several channels, with cooking channel ' Bake With Shivesh ' allowing fans to post photos of dishes they've made based on the videos and brainstorming about successes and failures.

Additionally, the gaming channel ' Mogswamp ' has devised ways of using the platform, such as for lively discussions about game strategies and posting of fan art.

'We hope Communities will transform the way creators and fans interact, fostering deeper connections and more meaningful conversations,' YouTube said. 'We're currently testing it with a small group of creators and their fans, and plan to expand access to more channels in early 2025.'
