According to YouTube, the company has developed synthetic singing voice identification technology that will enable it to automatically detect and manage AI-generated content based on creators' singing voices using YouTube's automatic content identification system, Content ID . YouTube said, 'We are working with partners to improve this feature and plan to run a pilot program in early 2025.' The company also revealed that it is developing technology to detect and manage deep fake content generated without creators' consent.

With the introduction of Content ID, YouTube processes billions of claims every year and generates billions of dollars in revenue through the reuse of artists and creators' work. 'We are committed to bringing this same level of protection and empowerment to the AI-driven world,' YouTube said.

Furthermore, YouTube has pointed out that scraping content on its platform is a violation of its terms of use , criticizing the company, saying, 'We recognize that scraping undermines the value of creators.' In fact, in April 2024, YouTube CEO Neil Mohan claimed that 'downloading YouTube videos for use in training AI is a violation of our rules.'

YouTube said, 'We will continue to adopt measures to ensure compliance with our terms of service, including ongoing investments in systems to detect and block unauthorized access, including scraping of YouTube content.' However, 'We fully recognize that as generative AI technology continues to evolve, creators may want to work with third-party companies to develop AI tools. That's why we're developing new ways for creators to give third-party companies some choice over how their content is used on the YouTube platform. We expect to have more information to share with you in the second half of 2024.'

YouTube also stated, 'As AI advances, we believe it should enhance human creativity, not replace it. We are committed to working with our partners to ensure future advancements empower creators and will work to develop guardrails to address concerns about AI and grow together.'
