Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in 2022, has led various companies, including

McDonald's , Starbucks , Netflix , and IBM , to close or scale down their Russian operations. Notion , a cross-platform freemium note-taking web app, has announced that it will withdraw from Russia on September 9, 2024.

Notion is an app that allows you to create and share documents, to-do lists, task management boards, etc. online. You can get a good idea of what it's like to actually use it by reading the following article.

In June 2024, the U.S. Treasury Department announced that as part of a G7 effort to prevent Russia's military infrastructure from using other countries' IT services, it would 'prohibit any person in the Russian Federation from providing IT consulting or design services, and IT support services and cloud-based services for enterprise management software or design and manufacturing software. This decision will take effect on September 12, 2024.'

And on the help page of its official website, Notion announced the end of its service in Russia, stating, 'The U.S. government has introduced restrictions that prohibit access to certain software products and services for any person in Russia. Due to these restrictions, Notion will no longer provide access to its platform to users in Russia after September 9, 2024.'

As a result of this decision, users in Russia will no longer be able to access Notion. They will be able to regain access if they travel outside of Russia, but if you have had billing information linked to Russia at any time in the past, your Notion workspace will be closed and the restrictions will not be lifted even if you change your billing information. As a result, we will stop charging for all subscription plans.

Russian users will be able to access workspaces until September 8, 2024, but will lose access on the 9th, so Notion is instructing them how to export their workspace data before the 9th.

According to the IT news site BleepingComputer, Notion is estimated to have 30 million users worldwide as of 2024. It has not been disclosed how many of those users are in Russia.
