Windows 'Control Panel' to be abolished
The official Windows support page has posted a notice that 'Control Panel will be discontinued.' Microsoft recommends migrating to the 'Settings' app.
System configuration tools in Windows - Microsoft Support
The Control Panel has been used for many years as a setting change app for Windows, but in Windows 8, a modern app called 'PC Settings' was introduced that allows you to change some settings, and in Windows 10 and Windows 11, the 'Settings' app with an expanded range of configurable items is now available. However, some settings can still only be changed from the Control Panel, so if you need to make detailed customizations such as power settings, you will need to use the Control Panel.
Microsoft has recently added the following text to its Windows settings support page: 'The Control Panel will be discontinued in favor of the Settings app. The Settings app provides a modern and streamlined experience,' declaring the future discontinuation of the Control Panel.
It is unclear when the Control Panel will be discontinued. The support page also states, 'The Control Panel remains available to provide access to some unsupported features and compatibility issues. We recommend using the Settings app whenever possible.'
