Donald Trump shares fake image created by generative AI that shows Taylor Swift is a Trump supporter

Donald Trump, who plans to run as a Republican candidate in the 2024 US presidential election, shared 'images that make it seem like singer Taylor Swift and her fans are supporting Trump' on his media company-owned social networking site 'Truth Social.' However, these images have been generated by AI, causing controversy.

Trump posted the following on Truth Social: 'I accept!' in response to photos of fans wearing T-shirts expressing their support for Trump and a poster of Swift encouraging people to vote.

Although no additional information was added to the post, these images were generated by AI. Swift herself supported Joe Biden, who was the Democratic candidate in the 2020 US presidential election, and further criticized Trump in response to the death of George Floyd in the same year, saying, 'I can't believe that you have the nerve to pretend to be morally superior before threatening violence, after inciting white supremacy and racism throughout your presidency. 'When the looting starts, the shooting starts'? I'm going to vote to get you out in November.'

'We're seeing an increase in AI spoofing in general for advertising purposes,' intellectual property and entertainment lawyer Noah Downs told TechCrunch. 'These fake AIs are becoming too common.'

In Tennessee, where Swift's corporate representative is based, the Portrait and Image Security Act of 2024, commonly known as the ELVIS Act, was passed in March 2024 to protect artists from unauthorized learning by AI.

However, since the ELVIS Act focuses on the unauthorized use of audio rather than images, it is unclear whether it will apply to this case. Attorney Avi Kaelin is not optimistic that the ELVIS Act will be applied to this case, saying, 'It seems unlikely that the Federal Election Commission will issue new guidelines on AI-generated political communications this election cycle,' and rather, he said that it may be a concern regarding the integrity of the election.
