Review of the 'ELEIN YBF-A20' - a powerful and portable fan that's super cool

Disaster-level heatwaves have become the norm, and home appliances that help you beat the heat have become essential gadgets for survival. Yamazen's battery home appliance series 'ELEIN,' which produces

battery-powered compact coolers , has released the ' YBF-A20, ' a 2-way fan that can be used cordlessly and has a full range of functions, so I tried using it.

The 'ELEIN YBF-A20' came in a box that looked like this.

Let's open it and check the contents. First of all, this is the instruction manual and warranty card.

And this is the YBF-A20 body. Its dimensions are 30.5cm wide x 40.5cm high x 16.5cm deep.

It looks like this when you hold it in your hand. It weighs only 2kg, so it's easy to move around.

Looking at the fan from the front, you can see that it has five blades.

At the base is the control panel and LED lights, both of which we'll look at in more detail later.

There are no buttons on the sides.

At the back of the fan is a socket for attaching a battery (sold separately) to turn it into a portable fan, and at the base is a storage lid and connection port for the power adapter.

Below is the power adapter storage space with the lid open.

This is the power adapter for the YBF-A20. The cord is about 1.6 meters long.

This is what the YBF-A20 looks like from above.

There are four anti-slip pads on the bottom.

To remove the fan cover, hook your finger under the protrusion on the cover and turn it counterclockwise.

The cover can be easily removed with one hand, making cleaning easy.

To reinstall the cover, simply align the mark on the cover with the mark on the fan and turn it clockwise.

Let's try it out. First, connect the power adapter to the main unit and then plug it into an outlet.

Turn on the power button.

The fan was spinning and blowing air.

The leftmost button is the 'swivel button', which allows you to swivel the camera in three steps: 30 degrees, 60 degrees, and 90 degrees.

This is the YBF-A20 in motion. If you press the power button while it is moving, it will automatically face forward and then stop moving, so there is no need to manually change the direction after turning it off.

This is what it looks like from above when it swings 90 degrees.

The vertical angle can be adjusted manually. When tilted all the way up, the fan will blow air straight up.

It can be tilted downwards up to about 30 degrees.

When you turn it on, the airflow level is set to level 1 out of 5, and you can change the setting from 1 to 5 each time you press the airflow button.

When you turn on a fan and take a nap, the noise it makes can be a concern. If you play the video below, you can see how the fan changes its volume and the noise it makes.

I checked the five wind levels of Yamazen's portable fan 'ELEIN YBF-A20' - YouTube

I attached a vinyl string to make it easier to see the wind force. First of all, the noise level at fan speeds 1 and 2 is about 45dBA , which is quiet enough that you won't know it's working unless you listen carefully or get close to the fan.

The noise level at fan speed 3 is around 50dBA, at which point you will start to hear the fan.

At air volume 4, the fan noise is 55 dBA, and at air volume 5, it is 65 dBA, so the fan noise is quite loud. The wind is also stronger in proportion to the sound.

By pressing the second timer button from the right, you can set the device to automatically turn off after a certain period of time. There are three options for the time until the timer goes off: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 4 hours.

The button on the far right is the 'LED light button,' which has three light levels from low to high.

The LED light is a feature that seems like it would be useful when taking it out to camp or in the event of a disaster by attaching a battery (sold separately). Even on the 'strong' setting, the light is not very strong, so it is not enough lighting by itself, but it is useful for illuminating the area around your feet or pillow.

The price of 'YBF-A20' on Amazon.co.jp is 9,100 yen including tax at the time of writing.
