Review of Yamazen's steam-type humidifier 'KS-GC281', which is equipped with a rapid mode that starts humidifying in about 15 minutes after turning on the power, and also has an automatic operation stop function that prevents dry heating.

Many people have experienced having a sore throat when they wake up in the morning due to the dry air in the room caused by turning on the heating too much during the cold season. Excessive dryness not only hurts your throat, but also causes problems such as drying out the mucous membranes, lowering the body's defenses and making you more likely to catch a cold. Therefore, it is recommended to use a humidifier to maintain the appropriate humidity. It's important. I received Yamazen's steam humidifier ' KS-GC281 '

as a gift, which is perfect for winter, so I checked out how to use the steam humidifier and its functions.

◆This is what it looks like
This is the outer box of 'KS-GC281'.

Inside was the humidifier itself, an instruction manual, notes, and a power cord.

The height of the main body with the handle lowered is approximately 31cm, and the length and width are approximately 23cm. The weight of the main unit is approximately 1.8 kg without water or power cord.

The height with the handle raised is about 45 cm, and when an editorial staff member with a height of 177 cm holds it in his hand, it looks like this. It looks like a large electric kettle.

The top lid has a steam outlet and a handle.

Push in the lock release button that protrudes from the handle and lift it up to remove the lid. Please note that the lid is not connected to the main body, so it can be removed completely.

The internal tank looks like this. The silver part at the bottom is an evaporation dish that heats the water.

There is a water line on the side.

There were also instructions on where to drain the water. If you dump the water in this direction, you will avoid getting the humidifier's control panel and power cord plug wet.

The control panel on the front is very simple, with a small monitor at the top and various lamps surrounding it, as well as a power button, humidification amount adjustment button, timer adjustment button, and rapid mode switching button.

There is a power cord plug at the bottom of the back.

The connecting part of the power cord is attached using a magnet, and the length is approximately 1.5m.

◆I actually tried using it
In order to use 'KS-GC281' immediately, fill it with water up to the water level line of the main unit.

Place the main unit in a stable place and connect the power cord.

When I pressed the power button, a 'beep' sound sounded, and the humidity lamp on the upper left edge of the monitor and the humidification amount 'Lo' lamp on the lower left edge of the monitor lit up. When the humidity lamp on the upper left side is lit, the monitor will display the current humidity in the room, but the number will only be displayed within the range of 31% to 79%, and if the humidity is below 30%. It is said that 'Lo' will be displayed when the time is over 80%, and 'Hi' will be displayed when it is over 80%.

The humidification amount can be adjusted in four stages: 'Lo (low)', 'Mi (medium)', 'Hi (high)', 'Auto (automatic)', and by default the humidification amount is set to 'Lo'. You can change the humidification amount by pressing the humidification amount button below the power button. Humidification amount 'Lo' produces about 200ml of steam per hour, 'Mi' produces about 350ml of steam per hour, 'Hi' produces 500ml of steam per hour, and 'Auto' sets the humidity to 50-60%. It switches between 'Lo' and 'Hi' depending on the situation.

If you put a blackout curtain behind it, you can see steam blowing out from the top of 'KS-GC281'.

When we measured the temperature at the air outlet using a thermal camera '

FLIR i3 ', we found that it could reach nearly 100 degrees when the humidifier was in 'Hi' mode. If you place your hand over the air outlet, there is a risk of getting burned by the steam, so be careful not to bring your hand near it carelessly.

In addition, when you press the rapid mode switch button, the second rapid mode lamp from the top right will light up and the humidifier will be set to rapid mode, which will humidify faster. In normal operation (maximum water level, room temperature 20 degrees Celsius, water temperature 20 degrees Celsius), steam will start spewing out in about 40 minutes, but in rapid mode, steam will start spewing out in about 15 minutes, so you can increase the humidity as quickly as possible. Rapid mode is recommended when you want. When humidification starts, rapid mode ends and the unit switches to normal operation at the currently set humidification amount.

If you press the timer button during humidification operation, the monitor will switch to timer time display and the second timer lamp from the top right will light up. Each time you press the timer button, the timer time changes in the order of '1H' → '2H' → '3H' → '4H' → 'Timer release', so all you have to do is set the desired time while looking at the monitor. While setting the timer, the monitor will prioritize displaying the timer time, but if you press the humidification amount button or rapid mode button, it will switch to humidity display for only 5 seconds.

Below is a video where I checked the boiling sound that comes with steam humidifiers when the humidification level is set to 'Hi'. If you are far away from the main unit, it won't bother you that much, but you can still hear the sound of boiling water, so people who are concerned about faint sounds should be careful.

If the water in the tank runs out during humidification operation, a continuous beep sound will be heard, the water supply lamp on the upper right side will light up, and humidification operation will automatically stop. To resume operation, you need to turn off the power, wait until the tank has cooled down enough, then fill it with water and turn it on again.

The electricity bill is approximately 12.4 yen per hour when operating in 'Hi' mode, and approximately 9.3 yen per 15 minutes when operating in rapid mode, based on the standard electricity rate unit price of 31 yen/kWh.

◆I tested the humidification performance.
This time, we actually operated the KS-GC281 indoors to test how long it would take to restore the humidity in a dry room. In addition, 'KS-GC281' has an applicable floor area of up to 8.5 tatami mats for wooden rooms and up to 14 tatami mats for prefabricated Western rooms, and this time we tested it in a Western room of about 12 tatami mats, with the heater running. However, the windows and doors are closed.

First, we installed 'KS-GC281' indoors with water in the tank.

The humidifier itself also has a hygrometer, but I was concerned about whether the air in areas far away from the humidifier was properly moisturized, so this time I measured the temperature with a hygrometer placed about 5 meters away from the humidifier. Masu. At the start of the test, the room temperature was 22.1 degrees and the humidity was 23%. In addition to being dry in the winter, the room is also extremely dry due to the heating.

I started driving. I want to humidify quickly, so I turn on the rapid mode and set the humidification amount to 'Hi.' In addition, steam started blowing out about 15 minutes after the start of operation.

The humidity 30 minutes after the steam started erupting was 27%. Humidity is rising, albeit little by little.

When I looked at the air outlet at the top of the main unit, there were water droplets that had cooled down from the steam.

The humidity after 1 hour of operation was 33%.

Two hours later, the humidity had risen to 38%. At this point, you can actually feel that the air in the room is more moist than before the humidifier was turned on.

The humidity after 3 hours was 46%. It was

within the 40-60% range that humans can comfortably live in.

In addition, the monitor on the humidifier itself displayed 58%, and there was a considerable difference in the measured humidity between the area around the humidifier and the area away from it.
