Introducing a Wi-Fi router that physically detects intruders
When we think of Wi-Fi router security, we think of measures on the network, but now there is a Wi-Fi router that also protects the physical security of your home. Gamgee's Wi-Fi home alarm system detects people and pets within a certain range and issues an alert when a stranger enters.

Dutch startup Gamgee claims that its mesh network of Wi-Fi routers can detect motion and, after around two weeks of training, can distinguish between residents and intruders.
This will allow notifications to be sent if there is a visitor, an intrusion into a specific room, or if a resident has a fall.
The idea of using Wi-Fi signals to detect motion has been around for a while, with researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara building technology that can identify people through walls using only Wi-Fi signals.

Recent research has made it possible to distinguish individuals based on their height, body type, or even the way they walk, and to count up to 20 people in one room. Gamgee's router is an application of this technology.
Gamgee's router is seeking investment on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, and a kit with three routers can be obtained for a contribution of 51,228 yen, and a set of four routers can be obtained for 59,910 yen. The investment deadline is August 25, 2024, and shipments are scheduled to begin in January 2025.
